what port/display are you trying to connect to? –steeldriver Feb 23 '15 at 0:36 "Failed to connect to server" The IP address is correct and the port is 5901. I have studied many google articles most of which involve magical incantations of one form or another, but nothing I can do will make it work. I tried with and without my ~/.vnc/xstartup file. Also note that older versions of the Xvnc server, by default, act as if they had a resolution of 100dpi.
