I have the HD cloned to an external HD with Super Duper, but if I reformat the internal HD and restore from the clone, won't the problems that caused the issue etc. I checked my home folder and it looks as if nothing has changed. My main worry is that making a block-by-block copy of the original TM drive and then using BOTH the original and copy drives could somehow screw up the directories, etc, especially Followed Tetsujin's advice, restarted in recovery mode, and ran csrutil disable.

While the "Disk Utility" executable has root ownership, since it doesn't have the SetUID flag set, that becomes irrelevant, and it launches at the regular user level. I couldn't find a file called "uniquely.socket" on my hard drive, so I'm at a loss as to how to fix.
