It sounds like the problem is that customized xorg.confs pointing to working fonts break on upgrade because the fonts have moved and aren't symlinked. I was running vncserver -geometty 1200x900 -alwaysshared -localhost -compatiblekbd :1 I experienced the same message Couldn't start Xtightvnc; trying default font path. Couldn't Start Xtightvnc; Trying Default Font Path. After installation I attempt to start the vncserver :1, but I get font errors: vncserver :1 Couldn't start Xtightvnc; trying default font path.
