I have done a "find" on my whole partition - there is no font file called "fixed*" at all on the system. working on it right now. so I added it by sudo ln -s ../../../share/X11/fonts/misc and now it works perfectly. vncserver -fp "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc,/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1,built-ins" which seems to just pass it through to the underlying Xvnc4 server invocation.
