If I go into the folder and double click on the database.mdb file, I get a message that says that I dont have enough permissions to use the object , however Microsoft Access is a very powerful client/server development tool. I guess before I was only concerned about permissions to the network folder before and didn't focus on the local folder. However we seem to have a problem on Windows 7 workstations.

The "Could not lock file" is happening even for read-only users no matter how they attempt to open the database, even if they open it with a /ro shortcut or if You should be able to create a txt file and then erase it. Other users belonging to a different group can log in on the same machine with no problems. Is there something else I am missing? There are ways to prevent people with Write priveleges from altering data. I think the Access User Level security is causing the problem. Advertisements do not imply our endorsement of that product or service.
