However, I need to make my computer usable again so I am willing to try restoring to an earlier point... I couldn't get online or even access other computers on my network. problem started after I ran virus removal software on my laptop. i have been searching for over a week and have found no help...just use firefox instead.

With them disabled everything works. If it isn't then i would find a replacement. We got it out, but still couldn't get onto IE. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.
